Two corporate executives found guilty in first-ever criminal prosecution for failure to report under the Consumer Product Safety Act. Simon Chu, 68, of Chino Hills, and Charley Loh, 65, of Arcadia, found guilty. They sold defective dehumidifiers manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai in China. With the House of Representatives leaderless and legislation going nowhere, President Biden has been urged to expand the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. More cities, elected officials, ask president to use his executive power to add acreage to the area, including Alhambra, Monterey Park, Santa Clarita and South Pasadena. The proposed addition of 109,000 ares to the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument includes forest sections just above the cities of Monrovia, Arcadia, and Sierra Madre, and up to Santa Clarita.

Indictment implicates Baldwin Park's ex-city attorney Robert Tafoya in $70,000 bribery scheme to help secure cannabis permit from a vote by Councilman Ricardo Pacheco. Special agents with the FBI and IRS arrested former Compton Councilmember Isaac Galvan, 36, and another person, a 50-year-old Arcadia resident, who is the owner and operator of a cannabis grower that obtained a permit in Baldwin Park.

Singers Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken perform at Arcadia Performing Arts Center on Saturday, 9/23/2023. They were two of the favorites on the second season of TV show American Idol. Studdard won the American Idol competition and Clay Aiken was the runner up 20 years ago. The tour is called "Twenty, the Tour."

Track, music world revered Jerry Moss. Jerry Moss, co-founder of A & M Records in 1962, was known as a big horse racing fan and owner of the great mare Zenyatta, the only female to win Breeders' Cup Classic in 2009 at Santa Anita Park. He was also a member of the California Horse Racing Board. He was 88 when he died on August 16 in his Bel Air home.

Flash-mob robbers target Macy's at The Shops at Santa Anita, the mall in Arcadia. At least 5 people with large bags ransacked a macy's store on Tuesday during a flash-mob robbery. Arcadia Police Department responded to the mall at 400 block of Baldwin Avenue at 1:10 P.M. They stole various boxed sets of perfume, ran, and drove away in a black 4-door sedan.

Decorated vet to celebrate 100th birthday. U.S. Air Force vetean Edward Lopez was a fighter pilot in both World War II and the Korean War. Born in Los Angeles and living in Arcadia for more than 50 years, he is one of the last living members of the Air Force's 365th Fighter-Bomber Group known as The Hell Hawks, a reserve fighter squadron in the U.S. Marine Corps. Arcadia police find the fatal hit-and-run suspect, a 17-year old boy, hiding in the bushes after pedestrian, a 28-year-old man, is killed crossing Huntington Drive. The suspect drove a gray Dodge Charger, which was found in the 1200 block of Oakhaven Road, with front end damage and a broken windshield.
