Intersection of Huntington Drive and First Avenue on Armistice Day, 1936 (1934?). There are two girls dressed as nurses driving a carriage pulled by a horse. Both carriage and horse and decorated. The Arcadia sign hangs overhead.
View east on Huntington Drive from a position west of Santa Anita Avenue. Shopping Bag Market is on northeast corner of this intersection (Currently, the site of a Denny's Restaurant, noted 6/19/2013). Pine's Cafe was still located near the SW corner of Huntington Drive and First Avenue. A sign reading "19 cent Burger" in the middle is prominent, as if "Real Pit Bar-B-Q" on the left.
View taken approximately 20 feet from front door of the Pines Coffee Shop. It was located at the Drive-In Market area at SW corner of Huntington and First Ave. It was the place of business closest to Huntington Drive. Otto Petersen bought it in 1929, according to Lorraine Petersen, Daughter-in-law. It had previously been called Odette's. (see photo #435)
View toward west into Arcadia Drive-In Market (aka Market Basket). On the left is John C. Baldwin Gas Station. The Pines Cafe is the business establishment nearest the right side of the photo. One sedan, one pick-up and one convertible are parked in area.
View west on Huntington Drive clearly showing Drive-In Markets which were located around service station on SW corner of First and Huntington Drive. Moving picture theater is mid-way in block on south side of street. Church with tower on NE corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue was moved to South First Avenue about 1935.
