Dominic Lazzaretto will be the new Arcadia City Manager, pending City Council's approval next week. He replaces Don Penman and is expected to start on March 26. He has been City Manager of La Palma for 6 years.
Gold Line bridge construction work on track; more eastbound 210 Freeway closures ahead. Motorists can expect up to 14 more full-lane, night closures in the coming weeks as workers complete a temporary structure needed to support the $18.6 million Gold Line Bridge. The bridge is expected to be completed next summer.
Gold Line construction will cause closure of intersection of First Avenue and Santa Clara Street for six months starting tomorrow. Front Street between Santa Clara Street and Saint Joseph Street will be permanently closing in September for the building of a parking structure and transit plaza on that site.
Performing Arts Center in Arcadia still under construction. The building costs $20 million and will officially open October 27, 2012 with an opening night concert by Paul Anka. The building has 40,000 square feet and 1200 seats, on the Arcadia High School campus.
Colorado Boulevard between Santa Anita Avenue and San Antonio Road will be closed for nearly 5 months to allow crews to build a bridge needed for Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension. The Colorado Boulevard bridge is one of three Gold Line bridges to be built on Arcadia streets. The stretch of Colorado Boulevard will be closed 24 hours/day, 7 days/week until April 30.
Arcadia has new hiking shuttle. U.S. Forest Service starts bus service to Chantry Flat trails from Arcadia Gold Line station. The shuttle goes to Chantry Flat Road, an area that connects to trails that lead to Sturtevant Falls, Hermit Falls, and historic Mount Wilson. The shuttle will run the next three weekends. Arcadia Chamber of Commerce launches new networking campaign. Pop-Up mixers are held monthly at Arcadia bars whose owners are Chamber members. The first one was at Monkey Bar at Westfield Santa Anita mall, January 9. Pop-Up mixers are not advertised in advance, instead information is posted through social media within days of the event. RSVPs are not necessary.
Circus Vargas will be coming to Santa Anita Park for the first time this fall. It will run for 11 days starting Thanksgiving Day in the southwest parking lot. It is an animal-free circus.
Hale Medical Center office building planned at 289 W. Huntington Drive in Arcadia breaks ground. Construction began last week on the $20 million four-story medical office building in the southern parking lot of Santa Anita Park that will connect to Arcadia Methodist Hospital via a footbridge.

National Night Out and Arcadia's 114th birthday will be celebrated with a concert in the park by the Swing Cats Big Band, and birthday cake on August 3, on the Arcadia City Hall lawn.
Santa Anita Park unveiled its new, all-dirt main track yesterday, allowing thoroughbred horses to get used to the natural surface three weeks before the start of the traditional winter meet. The dirt track replaces a synthetic one that failed to drain properly during heavy rains, resulting in 16 lost racing days since the fall of 2008.
Arcadia-born artist Quinton Bemiller is painting a mural to be displayed at The Armory Center for the Arts through March 21, 2010. This work was inspired by the natural environment of Hahamongna Watershed Park.
