Secession took a new turn with the news that the San Fernando Valley is also considering splitting off from Los Angeles County. Background of the reasons and feelings behind these moves in both the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys is outlined.
Crime statistics for the first half of 1979 show a 4.6% overall increase in crime in Arcadia, despite a decrease in the number of violent crimes. This compares to an overall increase of 5.2% for the larger San Gabriel area.
The Methodist Hospital has inaugurated a three months seminary internship under Chaplain Paul Johenk. The purpose is to teach methods of hospital calling and pastoral counseling with patients and families going through a medical crisis.
A multi-story medical building is being planned for the old library site at the corner of First and Wheeler. An excellent history and background of the old library is given.

The American Indian will be spotlighted on three floats in this year's Tournament of Roses Parade. Farmers Insurance Group's float will depict an Indian on horseback. Arcadia's float theme is "The First Americans" and the County of Los Angeles' float theme is "The Proud American."
Dan Bryant, a San Marino realtor, is running for the 61st Assembly district seat held for years by John Collier. Some biographical background is given.
Arcadia, along with several other communities in the San Gabriel Valley, face termination of animal control services now rendered by the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society. This agency will discontinue services as of June 30, 1978.
