Robert I. Melbo, former sports editor of the Arcadia Tribune, has advanced to become assistant superintendent of the Southern Pacific Railroad's Oregon division. Melbo's career is outlined.
Though there will be no federal funds available, it is still possible for Arcadia, Monrovia, El Monte and Sierra Madre to build a joint fire station and communications center.
Description of the newly formed Crime Impact Team, which consists of representtatives of 8 cities: Alhambra, Arcadia, El Monte, Monrovia, Monterey Park, San Gabriel and Temple City Station of LA County Sheriff's Dept. The Team is an outgrowth of the West San Gabriel Valley Burglary Investigation Unit, which ran out of federal funds.
A new office building is being constructed on the corner of Huntington and Indiana. It will occupy the site of the old service station run for man years by William Stockman, but which has been closed for some time.
Project Alert, a drug education and referral service, offers assistance to teenagers with drug problems. Available 24 hours a day, the officer on duty at the Sierra Madre Police Station will provide a referral to a volunteer staff of professionals.
Santa Anita Athletic Club had formal installation of Mrs. George Mumford as 1975 president of the social organization, which was organized in 1937 in Arcadia.
Arcadia has received $28,000 from the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission to develop a Santa Anita Wash Bikeway. Total cost is estimated at $72,000.
The Arcadia City Council voted to authorize closure of California St. between Santa Anita and First Avenue so that the Arcadia School District can install temporary classrooms while First Avenue School is being rebuilt.
