Marquee West use permit: new hurdle. Operators of the Marquee West teenage night club at 30 S. First Avenue will face a new hurdle when Planning Commission will reconsider the conditional use permit under which the center operates. The staff recommendation will be to revoke the permit, "due to the inability to control irresponsible behavior and the apparent inability of Marquee West to comply fully with all the conditions of the permit." A chronology of the city has been developed by the school district's Office of Elementary Instruction utilizing information from the Public Library, the Arboretum and the City Clerk's office. The 35+ page volume will be used by the third and fourth grade classes as they study the community's history.
After months of work, 25 Arcadia Rotarians, Rotaryanns and friends formed a Christmas caravan, carrying more than 350 gifts and better than 800 pounds of food, clothing and shoes to 227 orphans in Tijuana, Mexico.
Arcadia would lose approximately $472,268 yearly if Santa Anita Park race track were to close down and the 324 acre facility were to be developed with low density residential units. Losses would be partially offset by $190,750 in new property taxes and $278,482 miscellaneous taxes. New city services would account for a 6.18% increase in the city budget.

Mayor Robert Margett described his visit to Arcadia's sister city in Tripolis, Greece when he spoke to members of the International Affairs Division of the Women's Club of Arcadia.
The general plan will be reviewed by the Planning Commission. The "central area" will be the focus of study. This area runs from the 210 Foothill freeway on the north to Duarte Road on the south and from the east city boundary to Santa Anita Avenue. It also includes the commercial section west of Santa Anita Avenue and north of Huntington Drive.
Trouble continues for a teen music "night club" that opened in December 1977 on First Avenue. Noise, trash, and parking have been problems. Now it is restroom facilities and fire regulations.

Santa Anita Athletic Club had formal installation of Mrs. George Mumford as 1975 president of the social organization, which was organized in 1937 in Arcadia.
The Arcadia City Council voted to authorize closure of California St. between Santa Anita and First Avenue so that the Arcadia School District can install temporary classrooms while First Avenue School is being rebuilt.
The Boy's Christian League will not be permitted to distribute literature through the schools unless the Arcadia School Board changes its policy. National organizations such as the Scouts, the YWCA and the YMCA now have this permission.
