Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park will host the Breeders' Cup World Championships today and tomorrow, bringing most of the best thoroughbreds in the world together for 14 races with a record $25.5 million in purses. Local businesses hope to get a financial boost from the evevnt.

Rick Caruso has agreed to pay for a revision of the environmental impact report for the Shops at Santa Anita, the proposed mall development on the parking lot of the Santa Anita Park race track. The original environmental impact report cost almost $1 million. The new revision will require new studies and new public meetings and could cost another 6-figure amount.

He was instrumental in founding the Arcadia Public Library Foundation and served as its president since its inception in 1995, until his death in 2000. Four men were arrested while committing a burglary in the 1100 block of South Santa Anita. An employee at the Arcadia Public Library spotted the suspects and called the police.
