The Arcadia Senior Citizens Commission has received permission for the City Council to apply $45,000 in Federal Funds for counseling, legal aid, transportation, etc.
Approval was given by the Planning Commission to a group which wants to open Marquee West in the former bowling alley on Morlan Place. The owners plan to bring various musical groups to the facility. There will be no drugs or liquor allowed.
The Arcadia Tax Reform Committee has officially been formed and will petition the City Council to rescind the new sewer and street-sweeping levies and the increase of the utility tax from 5% to 7%.

The Planning Commission is endeavoring to make Arcadia's General Plan more flexible and more consistent with zoning regulations. The Commission will submit its changes to the City Council for final approval.
Arcadia has been officially approved by the American Revolutionary Bicentennial Committee as a Bicentennial city. Such approval is necessary before the city can participate in the many functions and activities of the ARBC.
The Planning Commission and ultimately the City Council are going to have a very difficult time prohibiting further lot splits in areas where splits were OK'd before the present laws limiting this practice.
The Planning Commission will ask the City Attorney whether or not they have the power to turn down a developer even though his plans meet all requirements.
The City Council on December 16 by a 3-2 vote decided not to apply for federal funds under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, even though the Council-appointed committee recommended that it apply.
