Ryan Brock, 29, of San Gabriel, was shot several times in the chest Wednesday, April 13, 2005 in the parking lot of 99 Ranch Market and later died. Police believe it was not a random robbery gone bad but there may have been a relationship between the suspect and the victim. The suspect appeared to be Latino, around age 20. Police are seeking help from witnesses.
A Monrovia firefighter, Fernando Rodriguez, 41, shot his wife, Katherine Rodriguez, and then himself in the parking lot of City of Hope National Medical Center. Arcadia and Los Angeles County fire teams watched over Monrovia after all Monrovia fire personnel were called in to hear the news.
A jury hears defendant Richard Robert Russo's conversation with Arcadia policeman Bruce Smith as he says, "I killed my wife." Russo's wife Carmen had about 18 bullet holes in her body. The prosecutor said Shi, a Chinese citizen, had plan to flee to Hong Kong after killing his 2 teenage nephews in Arcadia and an attack against his wife. Shi faces life in prison without parole if convicted in the January 22, 2016 killings of 15-year-old Anthony Lin and 16-year-old William Lin, and of injuring his wife the day before. The boys were bludgeoned to death in their home in the 400 block of Fairview Avenue in Arcadia.
Hunt continues for gunman in Arcadia car-to-car shooting on the 210 Freeway near Baldwin Avenue which left a woman named Betty Hernandez, 36, of Monrovia, dead. This shut down the freeway for several hours on September 4. On September 5, two people were found dead, in the block of 600 West Huntington Drive, an apparent murder-suicide. Both victims were in their 50s.
Peter Phoenix and Maria Miguel were arrested in connection with a series of scams in which elderly people had cash and jewelry stolen from their homes. They are accused of at least five burglaries since February in Arcadia.
Samah Ouda, a 12-year-old girl from Beit Hanoun, Gaza who was shot in the head by sniper fire, was treated at Arcadia Methodist Hospital by Dr. Bala S. Chandrasekhar. She had received help from the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.
Richard Russo, 50, of Arcadia, surrendered to police after an all-night standoff at his home on Arbolada Drive. In the morning Carmen Russo was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds and Richard Russo was arrested. Two children ages 6 and 11 are staying with family.
Ex-Muir High School teacher Brandon Michael Landreth, 30, of Pasadena, will be tried for murdering his his ex-wife's boyfriend Justo Cesar Morales. He pleaded not guilty. Ex-wife Tania Landreth claimed he had confessed to killing Morales

Obituary/death notice. Radio personality and singer Veeva "Suzy" Hamblen has died at the age of 101, in Santa Clarita, California. She and husband Stuart Hamblen (died 1989), also a radio entertainer, had a ranch in Arcadia for many years and were known as some of the leading trainers at Santa Anita Race Track in the late 1940s. Stuart and Veeva rode their Peruvian Paso horses in the Rose Parade from 1979 to 1989. Veeva was also famous as a gospel songwriter.
