New Arcadia City Council member April Verlato brings a new voice. She is a lawyer born and raised in Arcadia. She has been an activist against mansions. She is president of Downtown Arcadia Improvement Association (AIA). Her goals for her time in office are 1) to address the uptick in residential burglaries and 2) to improve Arcadia's business districts.
Arcadia Police Department launches Weibo page, a Chinese-based social media website, similar to Facebook and Twitter. Its participation on Weibo will enhance the department's ability to engage and communicate with a specific portion of the Arcadia community, with postings in simplified Chinese. Arcadia police fight holiday theft with "bait packages" with GPS tracking devices. Two suspects, Dandre Lagerman and Steve Lopez, have been arrested following this operation. See also Arcadia Weekly, p. 16, December 24, 2015.

The K-9 program returns to Arcadia Police Department. Police dog Zoli has been on the job for a month. The K-9 program was previously in place for many years before being discontinued in the mid-2000s.
Floretta K. Lauber Museum Education Center (MEC) dedicated in Arcadia in her name, upon the 1 year anniversary of her death. Lauber died August 1, 2016 and the MEC broke ground September 29, 2013. She was Arcadia's first woman to serve as mayor.
Arcadia Rotary Club's Salute to Seniors Luncheon will honor husband and wife Jerry Selmer and Doris Selmer, the City of Arcadia 2015 Senior Citizens of the Year.
Honorees of Arcadia Chamber 2015 Business Awards include Patricia Colonello of Mountain Views News. Business Person of the Year went to Kin Hui of Arcadia, CEO of Singpoli Group. Business of the Year went to Sierra Auto Honda, a family owned business. Raquel McLaughlin and her mother were awarded New Business of the Year.
Arcadia Chamber of Commerce has named Alice Wang "Arcadia's Citizen of the Year" for 2012-2013. Alice has been a very active volunteer with Arcadia Public Library Foundation, Assistance League of Arcadia's Operation School Bell, Tzu Chi Foundation's MWLA, Arcadia Historical Museum, Arcadia Police Department, Arcadia Chinese Association and Foothill Unity Center.
Arcadia police dog Zoli receives protective vest from anonymous donor. It is bullet-proof and stab-resistant and valued at $1795-2235. See also Arcadia Weekly, April 6, 2017, p. 1.
A woman in her 60s turned in a grenade she found, in the garage of her former home in Glassell Park, to Arcadia Police. She is staying with friends in Arcadia. The explosive device was a live World War I hand grenade called a "Mills Bomb" commonly used by British military from 1915-1970s. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's bomb squad detonated the grenade on the lawn of the Arcadia Police Department, after placing it in a hole several feet deep with sandbags. Police advise anyone who finds an explosive device to not move it, but leave it in place and call the police.
