Arcadia novelist Jack Cummings' recently published hard-cover novel, "Dead Man's Medal," is being will received as an exciting adventure story of the posthumous award of a Medal of Honor, set against a cavalry background in Arizona and Mexico of 1888.
In honor of the high school marching band traveling to Newcastle, Australia, a film crew from "Down Under" arrived in Arcadia to shoot scenes around the city. Mayor Don Pellegrino served as tour guide. City Council will hold its annual reorganization meeting. It is expected that Charles Gilb will be elected mayor for the second time and Jack Saelid will be mayor pro tem, an office he has held before.
"Notes from the Library," a new monthly column in the Arcadia Tribune make its debut in the December 14 issue of the paper. Dennis Petticoffer will author the column.
Helen Schrader, editor of the Arcadia Tribune and the Foothill Inter-City Newspapers, is retiring Friday, August 10, 1984. An Arcadia resident for the past 40 years, she has served as editor since 1964. Mrs. Schrader is the widow of Arcadia author, Del Schrader. Biographical notes included.
Dexter Jones, 72, long active in Arcadia civic affairs, died at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. He was a local attorney, a former member of the Arcadia Board of Education and the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce.
The Arcadia Welfare and Thrift Shop serves a dual purpose: a non-profit department store with thrift shop prices and as a local welfare agency for those in need. The article discusses the types of assistance given. All programs are funded by sales from the thrift shop.
