Arcadia won a round in a legal battle against a firm that distributes sexually explicit newspapers on stands throughout the city. A Superior Court Judge ruled in favor of the city regarding Arcadia Newsrack Ordinance regulations relating to the appearance and height of newsracks.
California Superior Judge Glenn M. Pfau, a 30-year resident of Arcadia, died December 13 at age 67. He is probably best known for being the first California trial judge to rule the state's death penalty law unconstitutional.
Arcadia, E. O. Rodeffer, and Public Storage won a round in their legal dispute with the city of El Monte. On March 12, Superior Court Judge Norman Douds ordered El Monte to allow San Gabriel Valley Water Company to dig up El Monte streets to install water lines to a Public Storage building partially located in Arcadia.
Arcadia teachers learned that their stalled contract negotiations with the district will advance to a stage called fact-finding (meaning an impartial panel paid by the state will judge disputes between the teachers and the district).
