The 2001 murder of grocer Adel Karas, a 48-year old Egyptian man from Arcadia, a few days after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, was initially thought to have been a hate crime. He was shot at his store International Market at 1381 E. Last Tunas in San Gabriel. Now police suspect Adel Karas was the victim of extortion. The suspects are two Latinos in their mid-20s.
San Gabriel Valley police officers and firefighters, including Arcadia Police Department and Arcadia Fire Department, competed in a charity basketball tournament at Arcadia High School to benefit Special Olympics Southern California. It was organized by Arcadia Police detective Walter Ashby.
Arcadia High School Student Council Apache Commission raised money and supplies to help support White Mountain Apache Tribute of Cibecue, Arizona. Since the 1990s Arcadia High School has maintained a positive relationship with the tribe.

Arcadia Chinese Association's biggest fundraiser of the year to benefit the Arcadia community takes place November 5 with the theme "That 70s Show." Funds raised are donated to Arcadia High School, Arcadia Public Library, Arcadia Police Department, Arcadia Fire Department, Arcadia Methodist Hospital, Assistance League of Arcadia, Foothill Unity Center, Arcadia Historical Museum and more.
Ruth and Charles Gilb Arcadia Historical Museum is currently exhibiting "Arcadia Fire Department: a history." It is the 7th annual Arcadia High School honors history exhibit. Arcadia All-Star rock reunion planned for Saturday, February 21at Santa Anita Park to honor well-known musician and beloved Arcadia High School alumnus Joe Ramsey, who recently passed away at age 58. More than 15 accomplished performers will pay tribute toRamsey, including "The Third Man," featuring Arcadia musicians Gary Putnam and Curt Lichter, who recorded and performed with Ramsey during the 1980s as The Prime Movers and Dread Zeppelin.

2001 Arcadia homicide suspect, 72-year-old Richard Cole, arrested by Los Angeles Sheriffs Department Homicide and Arcadia Police Department, in the stabbing death of his wife, Charlotte S. Cole. She was killed September 1, 2001 on the 50 block of Las Tunas Drive, in Arcadia.
The ad (open letter to the Arcadia community) that was paid for by the three members of the Arcadia Unified School District Board of Education who are targeted for recall--Cung Nguyen, lori Phillipi, and Kay Kinsler--was printed in the Pasadena Star News August 11, 2013. Fired Arcadia High School cross country coach James O'Brien and his supporters say the letter was a public relations bid to derail the recall effort. Arcadia Fire Department and Monrovia Fire Department resonded to a fire that destroyed a vacant Arcadia house in the 1300 block of South First Avenue. The house was in the process of being sold and was in escrow. The damage is estimated at $300,000.
Two Arcadia homes found by Arcadia Police Department to be used for indoor marijuana growing operations in the 1800 block of South Baldwin Avenue and the 300 block of West Woodruff Avenue. Gao Ming, 46-year-old male from Arcadia, Jia Hui Shen, 27-year-old male from El Monte, and Lan Lau, a 34-year-old female from Arcadia, were arrested and booked at Arcadia City Jail.
