A White House Commission has selected 16 year old Arcadia resident Eugenia Kim as one of 500 finalists in the U. S. Presidential Scholar Program, "the nation's highest honor for high school students."
Kim Woods, 26, who graduated from the John Tracy Clinic for hearing-impaired children, plans to enter graduate school in the fall and become a teacher of the deaf. She is profiled.
Cozette Munatones, 24, a graduate of Maranatha High School who currently attends USC, will represent Arcadia in the Miss California USA Pageant on November 23-24.
Purdy Tran of Arcadia is crowned by Pasadena Tournament of Roses President Gary Dorn. The 17 year old will reign over the 1998 Tournament of Roses Court.
Ten Arcadia High School students have been selected as National Merit finalists, placing them among 14,000 competing for the 6100 available Merit Scholarships. The seniors are Kenneth Branson, Sidney Chung, Enrique Colayco, Bonnie Flinn, Norbert Hsu, Jacqueline Luk, Douglas McCreary, Regina Momblanco, David Park and Henry Tseng.
17 year old Angie Zamorano's death last week in a car accident less than a mile from Arcadia High School brought 300 people together Tuesday for a memorial service at Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora.
