The Arcadia Police Department has moved to a new police station building at 250 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA, 91007, that is 42,000 square feet and cost $16 million. The official opening ceremony will be October 3, 2003. The old building that was built around 1956 will be demolished in a few weeks. In an opinion piece, writer Frank C. Girardot laments the suicide of Hunter S. Thompson. He shot and killed himself on Sunday, February 20, 2005. He had written two of his famous works, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", and "Strange Rumblings in Aztlan", when he lived in an Arcadia hotel in 1971.
Arcadia resident Thomas V. McKernan, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Automobile Club of California, has been elected president of the non-profit Los Angeles Police Foundation, which was created to help fund police safety programs.
On December 5, the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce will honor Gary L. Thomas, Arcadia resident and the 2003 President of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. Thomas, a 41 year member was elected to the Executive Committee in 1995.
Judge David Thomas of Arcadia has been selected to receive the 2003 Trustee of the Year Award from the American Association of the Homes and Services for the Aging.
Canning-Hunger, a non-profit organization that raises money to help feed hungry children, has been authorized to paint residential curb addresses throughout the city.

Thomas McKernan, a 60-year-old Arcadia resident, plans to help streamline the government bureaucracies that often bog down business ventures. He is the new chairman of California Business Roundtable.
25-year-old entrepreneurs Dustin Nicolarsen and Michael Thomas co-own The Derby, the historic Arcadia steakhouse. The two give back to their community by hosting a fundraiser to benefit their high school.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Thomas L. Willhite, 50, of Arcadia to the State Court of Appeal for the Second District. Willhite has also been a Superior Court judge and a Los Angeles Municipal Court judge.
