Arcadia held its 7th annual Law Day on Saturday, May 14, 2005. About 230 people attended this year-twice as many as last year. Lawyer and former Arcadia mayor Gary A. Kovacic founded the event and planned it in conjunction with the Arcadia Chinese Association.
Law Day was held Saturday at the Arcadia Public Library. The City of Arcadia and the Arcadia Chinese Association sponsored the program. Residents got to ask for free legal advice from community lawyers.
As part of National Law Day the City of Arcadia and the Arcadia Chinese Association will sponsor a free Ask-A-Lawyer Program at the Arcadia Public Library.
For the fifth straight year, more than two dozen local lawyers and judges will provide pro-bono consultation for the public on Saturday, May 3 in observance of Law Day. The free legal clinic will be at the Arcadia Public Library.
The 35th annual Public Schools luncheon was held at the Masonic Center to honor 26 National Merit Scholarship students. The Foothills Middle School Sixth Grade Chorus performed.

Arcadia has been named a Tree City USA for the ninth year. To be a Tree City, a community must have a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance.

Arcadia Ultimate Automotive has been served with a lawsuit from Trevor Law Group accusing the shop of operating without a license. The law firm based in Beverly Hills is filing frivolous suits with mainly small, minority-owned businesses especially automobile repair shops that lack resources to have a legal battle but will settle instead.
This season's rainfall recorded in downtown Los Angeles is 34.51 inches as of 5 PM Friday, March 4, 2005. It is just shy of the second rainiest season's rainfall of 34.84 inches from 1889-1890. Next month Arcadia leaders will vote on an ordinance that takes Jessica's Law further by banning sex offenders from living within 2000 feet of certain locations, in addition to schools and parks, such as golf courses, day care centers, public libraries, and swimming pools. It would also create "child safety zones," banning sex offenders from loitering within 300 feet of the locations and it would prevent more than one sex offender from living in any single residence. Pasadena is considering a similar ordinance.
