Arcadia Rotary Club's Salute to Seniors Luncheon will honor husband and wife Jerry Selmer and Doris Selmer, the City of Arcadia 2015 Senior Citizens of the Year.

Jerry Collins Picnic Pavilion dedication ceremony will be held July 19, 2016 at Wilderness Park at 2240 N. Highland Oaks Drive in Arcadia. There is a memorial plaque to commemorate his life. The 2010 All-Area Girls Tennis was named. Those from Arcadia High School are Caroline Young, Michelle Zhu, Francis Dean, Annie Tung and Elizabeth Lieu. Coach of the Year is Jerry Dohling. An Arcadia High School girl on the second team is Nadia Pacheco-Amaro.
Green Leaf Events, launched by San Gabriel Valley native Jerry Diaz, began handling operations for Monrovia's long-standing Friday Night Street Fair earlier this month, in conjunction with LA Party Works, and in November, will assume operations of the Downtown Arcadia Street Market. It features a farmer's market, food vendors, and live entertainment. Open every Saturday, 5-9 pm, beginning November 7, spans 2 city blocks on First Avenue between Huntington Drive and Santa Clara St.
Race horse "Zenyatta" carries jockey Mike Smith to victory at yesterday's Grade I $250,000 Santa Margarita Handicap at Santa Anita Park. Ann and Jerry Moss own Zenyatta.
Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer is banned from Santa Anita Park after his fourth horse of the meet dies. The horse American Currency sustained an injury to his left front ankle and had to be euthanized. This is the 30th horse fatality since December 26, 2018.
California Governor Jerry Brown declares a state of emergency in response to the recent windstorm that caused about $75 million in damage, primarily in the San Gabriel Valley. The declaration allows city governments to be reimbursed for up to 75% of the cost of the damage through state and federal agencies. It also allows state agencies to assist in the recovery.
John Shear, a 90-year-old paddock guard at Santa Anita Park, has been hospitalized for putting himself between a 6-year-old girl and a charging race horse called See and Sage. The girl was not hurt but Shear had several broken bones.
Is the Sport of Kings on the line? Santa Anita Park bans Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. Stronach Group released this statement in the wake of another equine fatality, "Individuals who do not embrace the new rules and safety measures that put horse and rider above all else will have no place at any Stronach Group race track.
Mayors of seven San Gabriel Valley cities that were hard hit by last year's ferocious windstorm are making a plea to Governor Jerry Brown for state disaster relief. The seven cities include Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Arcadia, Temple City, San Marino, South Pasadena and La Canada Flintridge.
Arcadia resident in the 700 block of Camino Grove Avenue finds the body of a stranger in his swimming pool. The dead man is 35-year old Greg Tser-Ming Chen of Arcadia. Foul play was not initially suspected in the death. Chen's dog, a golden retriever, which was not on a leash, was found in the backyard too.
