The Les Brown Band of Renown will perform at the annual Picnic Concert at the Arboretum. Brown is back by popular demand due to the overwhelming success of last year's concert.

The Atlantic Richfield Company has contributed $25,000 to the Arboretum to ensure resumption of several programs cut with the passage of Proposition 13.

A tentative 3-year salary and fringe benefit contract agreement was reached between Arcadia teachers and the district, averting a teacher's walkout that had threatened the district since January.
The new Hall of Environmental Education at the Arboretum has been completed and will open to the public shortly. The 8,000 sq. ft. auditorium in the new building accommodates nearly 1,000 people. It will be used for exhibits, classes and shows.
American Savings, which has been in temporary quarters at the southwest corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Wheeler Avenue in Arcadia since 1976, is seeking a new location. Site has been found at 30 South First Avenue but parking problem is proving to be a major stumbling block.
The John Panatier Nature Center at Arcadia's Wilderness Park houses a wide variety of display: stuffed and live animals, rocks and minerals, etc. Programs offered at the Center are discussed.
Suzanne Gilstrap, who was paralyzed for life when a 20-foot-long tree limb fell on her at the Los Angeles County Arboretum on July 25, 1977, has won a $1,625,000 settlement from the County. Miss Gilstrap, now 16, has appeared as a paraplegic in a recent television movie, "Skyward," with Bette Davis.
Santa Anita Park set a record for total attendance (2,690,834) and had it highest daily average attendance (31,289) since 1948, as the 1981-82 meeting closed April 21. Facts and figures about the racing season are presented.
