The Arcadia branch of the Red Cross, originally chartered in 1948, was rechartered last October as one of 2250 national branch offices. The Red Cross is run by volunteers, with no funding from the government.
A cooperative effort between the Arcadia Red Cross, Post Office and Police Department has resulted in an innovative program for special need individuals called, "Hey, Mr. Postman, check on me."
Rose Hassing, 27, currently the director of volunteer services for the Pasadena American Red Cross, will become the new senior citizens supervisor for the City of Arcadia as of February 7. She is replacing Betty Harris, who retired in December after 20 years with the city's senior citizens services.
Arcadia High School's Student Executive council convened behind closed doors last week to cast its vote on whether the Apache mascot is insulting to American Indians or is a tradition which should remain at the school. They present their vote to the School Board on Tuesday.
