Former Arcadia man accused of lying, losing millions of investors' money. James Arthur McDonald, Jr. former CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Hercules Investments LLC and Index Strategy Advisors Inc. was charged with one count of securities fraud. Prosecutors claim McDonald lost clients of his Los Angeles-based firm Hercules millions of dollars in late 2020. He had been renting a home in Arcadia.
Finalists picked for the 2023 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Royal Court. Field of 28 hopefuls for princess and Rose Queen will be trimmed on Monday. Among the finalists are a few from Arcadia High School--Navya Kannan, Sydney Yee, and Sahanna Rajinikanthan.

Top two candidates decided in races for 17 Congressional seats in the primary election. They will advance to November's general election. In District 28, which Arcadia is part of, Democratic Representative Judy Chu had about 61% of the vote and Republican Wes Hallman had 30.5%
One-year-old ejected from vehicle in Arcadia after a brief police chase in Pasadena. The one-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a 28-year-old woman who was driving, suffered minor injuries. The car crash was at Huntington Drive near Sunset Boulevard.
Arcadia woman Ruixue "Serena" Shi, 37, pleaded guilty to soliciting $22.8 million in funds for a condominium and hotel project scheme. The crime is one federal count of wire fraud, which has a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. See also Arcadia Weekly, p. 3, 7, October 28, 2021.
A San Bernardino teen is arrested following crash. Arcadia police find the fatal hit-and-run suspect, a 17-year old boy, hiding in the bushes after pedestrian, a 28-year-old man, is killed crossing Huntington Drive. The suspect drove a gray Dodge Charger, which was found in the 1200 block of Oakhaven Road, with front end damage and a broken windshield.

Pasadena, Arcadia, Rosemead, Glendora and Claremont residents will choose between incumbent Judy Chu (D) and challenger Johnny Nalbandian (R) to represent the 27th District.
License revocation upheld for internet studios run by couple Dr. Susan Block and Maximillian Lobkowicz. City says sex therapist Dr. Susan Block and husband allow people to sleep there overnight in the business building on Las Tunas Drive that is zoned for office use. City revoked their license on July 28. The couple appealed but the city's Planning Commission upheld the decision. The couple will appeal again.
Popular "Star Wars" talents to head fundraiser on May 4 at Chalice Collectibles at The Shops at Santa Anita mall in Arcadia, 400 South Baldwin Avenue. District 28--Democratic Representative Judy Chu, who represented parts of the San Gabriel Valley since 2013, seeks to return in this redrawn district that includes Alhambra, Monterey Park, Rosemead and Arcadia. Challenging Chu are Democrat Dorothy Carmona, Republican Wes Hallman and Independent Gio DePaolis. Chu had 66.5% and Hallman had 25%.

Bay Area horse racing track Golden Gate Fields in San Francisco to close permanently later this year. After the Golden Gate Fields meet ends, The Stronach Group said it will focus on moving horses from the Bay Area to Arcadia, with a goal of increasing field sizes and adding a fourth day of racing to the weekly schedule at Santa Anita Park, beginning in January. Most residents of District 27 are Asian (37.94%), White (29.22%), or Hispanic (26.88%).
