Arcadia voters overwhelmingly supported their schools in the tax base election held November 8. There was a heavy turnout, with over 80% of those eligible going to the polls.
The Early Childhood Education programs have been merged into the School Improvement Programs. A proposed consortium will consist of the Beverly Hills, La Canada, Arcadia, South Pasadena and Temple City districts.
Arcadia High School is the only school in the country to offer a class in race track management. Requirements to take the course are stiff. The aim of the class is to expose interested seniors to executive management techniques.
Bruce Polay has been named the new conductor of the Arcadia High School orchestra. The 28 year old teacher had been teaching at Long Beach High School.
The Arcadia Board of Education turned down a recommendation to shorten the last week of school at the high school. The recommendation was that for the last week, Monday would be a full day, while Tuesday through Thursday would be half days.
The Arcadia Teachers' Association and the Arcadia School Board have tentatively agreed to resolve unfair labor practices complaints following an informal hearing at the Los Angeles office of the Public Employees Relations Board.
With the musical production revived when an addition to the High School Little Theater was guaranteed, the High School will present "Fiddler on the Roof" May 3-6 at the San Gabriel Civic Auditorium.
