The Arcadia Planning Commission has approved a conditional use permit to allow Public Storage, Inc. to operate public storage facility on a lot on the south side of Lower Azusa Road east of Roseglen.

A popular fishing lake in Arcadia (Peck Road Water Conservation Park) was closed Thursday when 1,000 gallons of a gooey asphalt and water mixture oozed into it after 15,000 gallons of the substance leaked from a nearby Irwindale Plant.

Members of Parent Alert accused the Board of Education of dragging their feet in developing curriculum aimed at educating students on substance abuse. Such a curriculum is required by the California Health and Education Code. The district has been out of compliance with the code for more than 3 years.
The Arcadia City Council has recommended approval of a contract with Steiny and Company, Inc. to update the traffic light system on Baldwin Avenue. Arcadia Council PTA is joining with Parent Alert in sponsoring two town meetings to encourage parents and other citizens to join a community-wide campaign aimed at fighting school age substance abuse. Meeting to be held at 7:45 P.M. on succeeding Wednesdays, Nov. 2 and 9 at First Avenue Junior High School auditorium.
Roy Tynes, superintendent of Vehicle Maintenance for Arcadia, claims the city saves about $2000 a month using liquid propane fuel. Of the city's 280 vehicles, about 30 are powered on propane.
Residents of Arcadia, in response to a questionnaire about city services, rated the paramedic service the highest. Second highest rating was earned by the reference department of the library. Of 23,000 questionnaires sent out, 652 were returned. This is considered above average response.
More than 40 cats and kittens have taken over a foreclosed house in Arcadia and while most neighbors are complaining, some are feeding and trying to find a home for the cats. The house, at 381 Walnut Avenue, has been described as "one big litter box."
