U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer announced that a House and Senate Committee approved $900,000 to help Arcadia Police Department convert its current radio equipment, operation on wide-band UHF, to narrow band technology. This conversion is needed to become compliant with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) standards.
The U.S. House of Representatives approved $20 million in funding for the water infrastructure system of Arcadia and Sierra Madre. The bill still needs to be approved by the Senate. The action was announced by Congressman David Dreier.

Arcadia police surrounded a home in the 1700 block of Mayflower Avenue in a 7-hour standoff with an armed suspect believed to be threatening suicide and harm to other people in the house. Herb Rodrigues said the alleged gunman was his girlfriend's son. When police entered the house, only an elderly man was there, alone. The suspect had fled.

City of Sierra Madre police must find another way to deal with officer shortage after Arcadia balks at sharing officer. Sierra Madre officials had hoped Arcadia could help through a contract between the cities where one Arcadia officer would help patrol areas of Sierra Madre at night and backup would be available as needed.
