The Arcadia Business Association has requested a moratorium on beauty and nail shop in the downtown business district. There are reportedly 16 salons downtown and another 8 more on First Avenue south of California.
Olga Budds, 62, an anesthesiologist at Methodist Hospital for 32 years, is now the hospital's first female chief of staff, acting as a liaison between the 425 physicians and the administration.

Arcadia will have a weekly newspaper again - the ARCADIA WEEKLY. The paper will be in the same building as the old ARCADIA TRIBUNE that closed its doors in July 1992. Publisher Von Raees accepts the first subscription from Mayor Barbara Kuhn.
Former Mayor Roger Chandler and first-time candidate John S. MacDonnell have joined incumbents Barbara Kuhn, Sheng Chang and Gary Kovacic in pulling papers to run for four open seats at the council elections April 14, 1998.

Margaret Pappas, who runs the Back on the Rack consignment shop at 118 South First Ave., says the store is "99.95% women's clothing" that "must be impeccable." Items not sold in 90 days either go back to the customer or are donated to charity.
The Arcadia City Council voted to authorize closure of California St. between Santa Anita and First Avenue so that the Arcadia School District can install temporary classrooms while First Avenue School is being rebuilt.
