Former Mayor Charles Gilb and his wife Ruth, through their family foundation, are donating $300,000 to construct a new museum. Curator Carol Libby displays museum artifacts on the community's history in the current museum.
In additon to the $300,000 donated by Ruth and Charles Gilb, another $85,000 has been contributed from the community for the new Arcadia Historical Museum.

The Arcadia Historical Society is launched on a membership drive as it works toward establishing a museum to house artifacts of historic significance to Arcadia's early days.
On April 6, Arcadia will have a local election to fill two City Council seats and the position of City Clerk. Ruth Lubin, 82, a retired Arcadia High School teacher, beat out 12 other contestants to win the 7th annual Ms. Senior America of California competition. She will soon go the Reno, Nevada, to vie for the Ms. Senior America crown.
In a letter to the Tribune, Chairman Charles Gilb says that the auditorium project is ready to move forward. A non-profit corporation has been set up and this will make donations tax-deductible. The Arcadia Historical Museum has been approved for a $100,000 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for construction of a new museum.
Approximately 147 students who have attended Hugo Reid will be transferred to Holly Avenue next year if the proposal is passed by the school board. The transfer and boundary change are designed to alleviate over-crowding at Hugo Reid.
The preliminary design for the Arcadia Historical Museum has been approved by the city council but more money is still needed to build the museum. Fundraising will be done by the Arcadia Historical Society.
The School Board reversed an earlier decision to order construction of two modular buildings at Holly Avenue School to permit the transfer there of 150 students from Hugo Reid, thus emptying one classroom there for future growth. It may not be possible at this late date to get the necessary work done by September 15.
