Former Mayor Roger Chandler and first-time candidate John S. MacDonnell have joined incumbents Barbara Kuhn, Sheng Chang and Gary Kovacic in pulling papers to run for four open seats at the council elections April 14, 1998.
A fire that started in a classroom at Baldwin Stocker School was completely contained by the Arcadia Fire Dept. on the morning of February 14. No other rooms were damaged in the blaze.
All work on the east end of the Foothill Freeway in Pasadena should be completed in mid-February. Trains have been using the freeway median since August 12, 1975.

James Helms' City Council seat will be "up for grabs" as the city Charter prohibits more than 2 consecutive terms. Also, Dr. Alton Scott's seat will be available as he has announced that he will not seek re-election. Candidates may pick up nomination papers on January 15 and must file by noon on February 5 for the April election.
Dennis Lojeski Field at Eisenhower Park, site of the Little League baseball field named in honor of Dr. Dennis Lojeski (1944-1996), was dedicated on January 12.
A Bicentennial Park will be dedicated February 17, 1977. Located at the southwest corner of Longden and 6th, the park is 1/2 acre in size. It is the latest of 11 mini parks throughout the city.
