Arcadia Tournament of Roses Association plans its 12th annual Coronation Ball. Mrs. Earl Welch is chairman of the Ball Committee. Miss Arcadia will be crowned. Foothills Middle School music teacher Sandra Ragusta resigned after 12 years, after receiving her lowest employee evaluation since 1990. She tried to withdraw her resignation but Arcadia Board of Education decided not to give Ragusta her job back.

Finalists have been determined in the 2001 City of Arcadia Mayor's Spelling Bee. Competition will be held at the Lucky Baldwin Day Community Picnic on October 28.
