Citizens responded negatively to a request by the Santa Anita Oaks Homeowners Association to close several streets north of Foothill Boulevard, and to the introduction of an ordinance raising posted speed limits.
The Arcadia City Council reaffirmed its decision to barricade Hillcrest Blvd. near Valencia Way. The reasoning is that motorists would then be forced to disperse traffic rather than concentrate usage on one street.
Residents in the Santa Anita Oaks area should receive some relief from the current traffic problems. Instead of barricading the streets as originally suggested, islands will be constructed to restrict some of the traffic.
The Westerner Restaurant has been granted a temporary permit allowing patrons to dance on the premises. The temporary permit is valid until an ordinance can be formally enacted. Until this action was taken, public dancing was allowed only at the Santa Anita Turf Club.
