The newest park in the Arcadia area is the Peck Road Water Conservation Park at Live Oak and Peck Road. There will be fishing in the spreading basin of the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. This is a Los Angeles County Regional Park. Supervisor Peter Schabarum was on hand for the opening on June 23, 1975.
The Arcadia City Council will oppose attempts by El Monte to annex a strip of uninhabited Arcadia land located between Peck Road and the San Gabriel River.
A meeting between the Arcadia and El Monte City Councils did not resolve the situation created by El Monte's attempts to annex 310 acres of Arcadia property south of Live Oak Avenue.
Though there will be no federal funds available, it is still possible for Arcadia, Monrovia, El Monte and Sierra Madre to build a joint fire station and communications center.
Arcadia has allotted $3700 toward the construction of a multi- jurisdictional bikeway along the Rio Hondo Wash from Peck Road to the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area. This would provide approximately 7.5 miles of bike paths linking Arcadia to existing paths leading down to the Long Beach Harbor.
$51,942 for a park at 6th and Longden and $90,000 for one at Colorado have been granted by the State Beach, Park, Recreational and Historical Facilities Bond Act of 1974.
A plan for a joint fire dispatch center to serve the cities of Arcadia, Monrovia, El Monte and Sierra Madre was unanimously voted down by the Arcadia City Council.
The City Council approved $32,000 for expansion of Wilderness Park. The city now has title to Clamshell Canyon southeast of the present park. 94 acres were purchased from George Elkins and 10 acres from Mrs. Ruth Schroeder.
Description of the newly formed Crime Impact Team, which consists of representtatives of 8 cities: Alhambra, Arcadia, El Monte, Monrovia, Monterey Park, San Gabriel and Temple City Station of LA County Sheriff's Dept. The Team is an outgrowth of the West San Gabriel Valley Burglary Investigation Unit, which ran out of federal funds.
The Arcadia Board of Education, in an effort to recoup between $60,000 and $75,000 lost in expenditures in negotiations with employees, has selected Norman E. Miller to negotiate with the state for reimbursement of the funds.
The El Monte City Council formally withdrew its petition to annex some 300 acres of Arcadia property south of Live Oak Avenue. Protests to the annexation represented more than 50% of the assessed property owners.
The Whittier Narrows Recreation Area was dedicated on December 8, 1975 by Supervisor Peter Schbarum, the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Victor Vesey, and others. The 1000 acres include a nature area, picnic center, ball areas, etc.
The California Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles has applied for 2 weeks of racing, from September 30 the October 10, 1979, to raise funds as an Agricultural District.
