Relics of Eaton's Restaurant will be on sale during the next 3 or 4 weeks by Mead House Wrecking prior to the demolition which is to make room for 2 new restaurants.
A portion of the Eaton's restaurant property on the corner of Colorado and Michillinda has been sold by the Times Mirror Company to Younson Construction, who will build 18 residences on the site.
The Westerner Restaurant has been granted a temporary permit allowing patrons to dance on the premises. The temporary permit is valid until an ordinance can be formally enacted. Until this action was taken, public dancing was allowed only at the Santa Anita Turf Club.
The dancing permit granted to the Westerner has been causing headaches. Residents adjacent to the restaurant have been complaining of noise and spillover parking. The City Council has extended the permit only until the next regular meeting on January 7, 1975.
The famed old Eaton's Restaurant will be demolished and plans have been submitted for a smaller building which will house: a) CoCo's - a high class coffee shop b) Plankhouse - steak, lobster, bar, entertainment. The owners will be Far West Services, Inc., which owns such restaurants as the Reuben E. Lee in Newport.
Traces of history of the brick building on North First which was recently torn down. Built in the mid-1920's, it housed a restaurant, laundry, and various newspapers including the Tribune. Eventually the Post Office took over the entire building.
A fundraiser will be held on March 4 at the Arcadia High School track beginning at 9:00 A.M. It is billed as a Jog-A-Walk-A-Torium. Entrants will get sponsors to pledge money on the basis of laps completed. Widest participation is hoped for.
Teachers are looking for an effective way to show the School Board just how unhappy they are over their failure to support an override election which might have funded a 15.4% pay raise.
Public hearing on Anoakia-area zone change allows citizen input. Hearing is on a Planning Commission resolution recommending approval of a zone change from R-0 30,000 to R-0 30,000 and D for the Anoakia area. This means that residential lots must contain at least 30,000 square feet. The D stands for "design overlay," which gives the property owners' association an opportunity to review architectural plans for development.
The Arcadia School Improvement Program, successor to the Early Childhood Education Program, was dropped by the Arcadia School Board by a vote of 3-1, with one abstention.
