"Captive Girl" Susan (aka 'Genie') Wiley's father Clark Wiley committed suicide. Clark Wiley shot himself minutes before he was to have appeared in Alhambra Municipal Court on charges of child abuse. Arcadia is one of 4 cities in Los Angeles County to receive funds from the Solid Waste Management Board to clean up litter and enforce anti-litter laws. The $7,954 will help rebuild a street sweeper.

SB 1774 passed the California Senate 21-14, and if it passes the Assembly, it could cripple any secession moves by the San Gabriel Valley. Senator Richardson says that SB 1774 is the work of Senator N. Holdea, who was a deputy of Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, and the bill reflects the county's position that it would be bad to break up the county.
School will start September 16, 1975 and end June 19, 1976 (Friday). The new dates were set to accommodate the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur (September 15).
The possibility of a fee for admission to both the Arboretum and Descanso Gardens is being considered by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. At a hearing, Hal Roach, a member of the Board of Governors expressed the hope that the Supervisors would not resort to charging a fee. The fee would NOT be used to keep up the Arboretum, but would go into the County General Fund.
