The Rotary Club of Arcadia made its annual Christmas caravan bearing food and gifts to the Lazero Cardenas Orphanage and the Santa Teresita Home near Tijuana, Mexico. A new all-purpose building, financed and built by the Arcadia and Tijuana Rotary Clubs, was dedicated at Lazero.
The Arcadia Rotary Club has announced a major building program at the Casa Hogar Lazaro Cardenas, an orphan's home in Tijuana, Mexico for 100 children. Members of the Tijuana Rotary Club have agreed to provide one-third of the costs of the project.
The Trask Boy Scout Camp in the San Gabriel Mountains has a new multi-purpose building, thanks in part to the Arcadia Rotary Club. The building is named after Arcadia resident Nick Pokrajac.

The Arcadia Rotary Club awarded small grants to 21 Arcadia Unified School District teachers in a program designed to augment existing school curricula with specially funded projects.
Arcadia teachers are eligible for mini-grants of $100-300 under a program being implemented by the Arcadia Rotary Club. The program will provide funds to district teachers for special projects beginning in February. All teachers, from kindergarten to 12th grade, are eligible to apply.
The Arcadia Rotary Club awarded grants totaling $4,990 to 17 teachers at the February 13 Arcadia Board of Education meeting. Grants ranging from $175 to $300 were given to individual teachers to help with special classroom projects. 17 students at Arcadia Alternative High School signed up as owner/operators of Medi-Kit Company, part of a 13-week Junior Achievement program sponsored by the Arcadia Rotary Club. The Medi-Kit auto safety first-aid kits sell for $8.
Kent Barney was recently named Shakespeare Teacher of the year as part of the Rotary Club's celebration of Shakespeare week. Mr. Barney states the many rewards of teaching, especially that of Shakespeare.
After the County spent $410,000 over two years to renovate three of the four bowling greens at Santa Anita Lawn Bowling Club, some members are angry that the greens won't be playable for as long as two more years.
Jim Hauser, a 40-year resident who is active in the Arcadia Red Cross, Arcadia Historical Society, and the Rotary Club, was named Senior Citizen of the Year.
