Arcadia School District will continue to charge fees for bus transportation for students despite uncertainties caused by a Court of Appeals ruling and a pending state Supreme Court decision.
The Supreme Court has prohibited school districts from charging home-to-school bus fares. During the 1987-88 school year, approximately 800 students paid $59 a quarter for bus service in Arcadia.
The county Metropolitan Transportation Authority will sell naming rights to all rail lines, bus lines, and transit stations, such as the Gold Line Monrovia Station (in photo) and Foothill Gold Line Arcadia Station (in photo). Last week's fake bomb threat at Arcadia High School by a 14-year-old student, who was arrested, caused a lockdown of almost 4,000 students and personnel for several hours. This had a great impact on the school. Thousands of dollars of hot lunches were wasted, additional revenue was lost when all school activities in the afternoon and evening had to be canceled, and overtime had to be paid to maintenance workers.
Ernest "Cal" Ford recently retired after 27 years of driving a school bus for Arcadia School District. Ford is a second generation school bus driver. His father drove a school bus for Arcadia in the 1930's.

Arcadia Unified School District has launched new online application for its meals program. For each student that qualifies for free or reduced-priced meals, the savings can equal more than $1400 per school year. Under the new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) adopted by the state, school districts will receive additional money for each student that qualifies. Only 22 school districts in California honored by College Board for 7th Annual AP District Honor Roll and Arcadia High School is one of them. This means that since 2014, the qualifying school had to increase the number of students participating in AP courses while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP exam scores of 3 or higher.

The family of David Taylor, an Arcadia High School student who was killed in a bicycle accident last year, has presented a claim of $500,000 to the Arcadia School District. The claim was denied by the school board and turned over to the district's insurance company.
The Los Angeles County Commission on School District Organization voted 9-0 to deny Sierra Madre's petition to join the Arcadia School District. The matter will go to the state Board of Education, which may take 3-4 months to make a decision.
