Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens (photo) wins his first race since 2005, at Santa Anita Park yesterday. He is the winner of 3 Kentucky Derbies and 8 Breeders' Cup races and has emerged from a 7 year hiatus.
Bob Baffert, a Hall of Fame horse trainer, had a heart attack in Dubai, where he was preparing a horse named Game on Dude in the $10 million Dubai World Cup. Baffert's assistant Jim Barnes, said from Santa Anita Park, that Baffert was doing well after having three stents inserted into two arteries.
Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer is banned from Santa Anita Park after his fourth horse of the meet dies. The horse American Currency sustained an injury to his left front ankle and had to be euthanized. This is the 30th horse fatality since December 26, 2018.

Arcadian Roger S. Stevens, a flutist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 30 years, is a professor of music at USC. As owner and pilot of a Cessna 182, Stevens frequently flies himself and his wife, Dr. Margaret M. Stevens, minister of the Santa Anita Church, to classes and speaking engagements in other areas.
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert's horse Gabby's Golden Gal (owned by Arnold Zetcher) won the Santa Monica Handicap at Santa Anita Park. The jockey was Martin Garcia.
Arcadia Performing Arts Center (auditorium) opens, with Paul Anka, to rave reviews. It was a sell-out performance at this $20 million venue's inaugural event. Paul Anka performed his 1959 hit "Put Your Head on My Shoulder."
Martial arts champion, Hollywood actress, and stunt woman, Jing Li, is a martial arts instructor at Washu Action Star Academy in Temple City. She will be a guest at the Arcadia Branch of the American Association of University Women on Monday, November 12. She will present a program about Washu, an exhibition, and full contact sport, and view the documentary film "Autumn Gem," in which Jing Li has a starring role. An international businessman was abducted from his Arcadia home and later released the same evening after his abductors demanded he pay them $1 million. He was told that he would be contacted the next day with instructions about where to put the money, but no money has been paid. This is the first kidnapping of this type in Arcadia, although there have been four other kidnappings in the San Gabriel Valley since last October.
A recent report filed in federal court says Gemcoin's scam collected $164 million. Initially, investigators linked Gemcoin to $32 million in fraudulent investment. Steven Chen, his company U.S. Fine Investment Arts Inc., and Gemcoin (digital currency backed by precious gem reserves and amber mines) are accused of a "worldwide pyramid scheme."

DUI (driving under the influence) is suspected in fatal freeway crash. An allegedly drunk Tatsukiho Sakamoto, 37 of Arcadia, ignored signs and cones indicating the 10 Freeway was closed, and drove his Toyota RAV4 through the closure, fatally striking 21-year-old road worker Connor McDermott Penhall. Penhall is son of hall of fame motorcycle racer and actor Bruce Penhall.
Former Arcadia Police Chief Charles D. Mitchell died August 2, after a long bout with lung cancer. Mitchell, 53, retired on July 5, 1985, after more than 20 years with the Arcadia Police Department.
