Group W Cable celebrated the hook-up of its first cable television subscriber south of Foothill Blvd. Group W and Arcadia city officials gathered at the home of Frank Waite on La Sierra Dr. in Arcadia to present the new connection and a new television as a gift.

Suzanne Gilstrap, who was paralyzed for life when a 20-foot-long tree limb fell on her at the Los Angeles County Arboretum on July 25, 1977, has won a $1,625,000 settlement from the County. Miss Gilstrap, now 16, has appeared as a paraplegic in a recent television movie, "Skyward," with Bette Davis.
John B. Simmons, principal of Continuation High School, will be honored by the school district for his efforts in developing and administrating the Continuation High School program. Simmons' background and the school's program are discussed.
Dr. Stephen A. Goldstone was hired as the new superintendent for the Arcadia School District at a special meeting of the Arcadia Board of Education. Goldstone, currently employed as the superintendent of the Albany Unified School District near San Francisco, will begin his duties in Arcadia July 1, 1985.
The Arcadia City Council will apparently have to adopt a wait-and- see stance in regard to the service provided to the city by Group W cable television.
Bill Adams operates the only year-round pack train in the country and the last one in the San Gabriel Mountains. Adams carries supplies to the 84 cabins in the Chantry Flat area of the Angeles National Forest.
After months of delay, the city is prepared to begin negotiations with Teleprompter Cable TV to develop the southern portion of the city to receive pay television service.
Complaints about Group W, the Westinghouse subsidiary that bought out Teleprompter and theoretically is supplying cable television to northern part of Arcadia by City Council.
Arcadia won approval last week of a dial-a-ride program with 50-cent fares from the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission who agreed to let Arcadia use its Proposition A transit funds to subsidize the program's half-dollar fares until June.
