Edward L. Feldhaus Jr., Foothills Junior High School teacher, has been named Arcadia Unified School District's nominee to the Los Angeles County "Teacher of the Year" recognition program.
Arthur Farr, 46, the band and orchestra leader at Dana Junior High School, has been named the Arcadia Unified School District's 1990 Teacher of the Year. Farr has been teaching band and orchestra at Dana for 23 years, as well as coaching the basketball team and teaching physical education. The State Department of Education has announced that Dana Junior High and Foothills Junior High have been nominated as Distinguished Schools in the 1987-88 California School Recognition Program.
Arcadia resident Robert M. Sloane has been named president and chief executive officer of Orthopaedic Hospital in Los Angeles. Biographical notes included.
Carolyn Searfoss, a bus driver for the Arcadia Unified School District, has been active for 12 years in the Arcadia Music Club, the parent support group for the band and orchestra. Among other things, she attempts to measure and fit some 200 uniforms for members of the band.
Dr. Vance T. Peterson of Arcadia has been appointed vice-president for institutional advancement at Occidental College. Peterson will assume responsibility for Occidental's external relations program, including fundraising, alumni relations, public communications and community affairs.
Dorothy Cowan Smith, for 30 years active in Arcadia business community, has retired as manager of the Arcadia Welfare and Thrift Shop, with which she has been affiliated for more than 18 years.
Dexter Jones, 72, long active in Arcadia civic affairs, died at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. He was a local attorney, a former member of the Arcadia Board of Education and the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce.
Arcadia High School's counseling program has been selected as a model program by the L.A. County Office of Education for its improvements during the past 2 years.
Dr. Richard Cordano, Principal of Arcadia High School, has announced that he will take an early retirement effective June 30, 1985. Cordano first came to Arcadia High in 1964 from John Muir High School in Pasadena.
First Avenue Junior High has been nominated as a 1990 California Distinguished School by the State Department of Education. First Avenue will be one of six schools in Los Angeles County to be so nominated.
