John Sinclair is the newly appointed assistant superintendent of elementary education and personnel for Arcadia schools. Sinclair has been involved in education for 27 years.
Susan Robertson, 48, a 4th grade teacher at Hugo Reid School for 26 years, died on July 4 after an 11-year battle with cancer. Mrs. Robertson graduated from USC in 1963 and worked for the Arcadia Unified School District, teaching at Hugo Reid School for her entire career.
A report presented by the Arcadia Board of Education indicates that 6th grade students at all Arcadia elementary schools are exceeding reading and math goals set by the state from now through the 1989-90 school year.
Ernie Harrington, principal of Santa Anita Elementary School has retired. He joined the district staff in 1950 as a fourth grade teacher. Santa Anita School will not be opening in the fall.

Isabelle Stires is retiring after 19 years in the Arcadia Unified School District. This past year Mrs. Stires has been teaching second grade at Camino Grove School. Before that she taught second and third graded at Bonita Park School. She and her husband plan to travel.
Parent Alert has developed an educational drug program for 5th and 6th grade students. Titled "It's Your Decision," it teaches youngsters some of the important facts about drug abuse. Ruth Gilb elected president of Arcadia Tournament of Roses Association. Mrs. Gilb took over from Craig Lucas as the newly elected president for the year 1983-84.
