At the Board of Education meeting there was some discussion of the Space Utilization Committee's recommendation to close two elementary schools, Bonita Park and Baldwin Stocker. Robert Kladifke, a member of the committee, objected to closing the newest and most educationally modern school in the district, Baldwin Stocker. Two public hearings are scheduled.

Todd Dickson, a 12-year-old student at Baldwin Stocker School, has won a trip to Spain. Parade Magazine conducted a contest for news carriers across the country. Todd joins 139 other carriers for his two week trip.

Barbara Rulac is a a member of the 1980 Skiathon, a team of 11 people who roller-skied from Los Angeles to Lake Placid to promote and attend the Winter Olympics.
In honor of the high school marching band traveling to Newcastle, Australia, a film crew from "Down Under" arrived in Arcadia to shoot scenes around the city. Mayor Don Pellegrino served as tour guide. Dr. Suzanne Keavney, principal of Foothills Junior High School, has been nominated by the Arcadia PTA for the National PTA's Phoebe Apperson Hearst Outstanding Educator Award.
Marsha Burkhalter, a 4th grade teacher at Hugo Reid Elementary School, was nominated by the school's PTA for the organization's national Outstanding Educator Award.
