Isabelle Stires is retiring after 19 years in the Arcadia Unified School District. This past year Mrs. Stires has been teaching second grade at Camino Grove School. Before that she taught second and third graded at Bonita Park School. She and her husband plan to travel.
Staff people from Sanitation District 15 attempted to explain the reasons for an $11 sewer assessment that will be tacked on to the property taxes next year. About 100 people attended the meeting at Camino Grove School.
The Arcadia Unified School District has about 130 new elementary school students this year, prompting district officials to hire 4 new teachers, combine classes and add portable classrooms.
Dr. Ed Ryan, district superintendent, told the Board of Education that the teaching staff in the Arcadia School District must be reduced next year by 30. Susan MacNab will succeed Paul Mundy at Hugo Reid; William Robertson will succeed Charles Jarboe at Camino Grove; John Bogut at Arcadia Continuation succeeding John Simmons; Mark Vetter, English teacher at Arcadia High School, has been appointed assistant principal, Curriculum and Guidance at the high school.

Arcadia Teachers settled their year-long contract dispute with the school district following 2 marathon bargaining sessions. Now the talks must be approved by the Arcadia School Board and by Arcadia teachers.
Arthur Tucker, former Arcadia school administrator, died September 15 after a long bout with cancer. Tucker served as Principal at Holly Avenue, Highland Oaks and Camino Grove Schools.

Dolly McLain has retired after 23 years of service with the Arcadia Unified School District. For the last 17 years she has worked as secretary to the Superintendent and the Board of Education.
The Arcadia City Council has authorized a project to build concrete sidewalks adjacent to Camino Grove, First Avenue, Hugo Reid Primary, Dana and Holly Avenue schools.
