A memorial trust fund is being set up to finance the education of the children of Steven and Cathy Jones, an Arcadia couple who were killed in and auto accident August 17 near Val Verde.
The new Senior Citizen Center, now in the architectural drawing stage of development will replace the Rose Garden at the corner of Huntington and Campus Drives. The center will house the administration offices of the Arcadia Parks and Recreation Department and the Historical Museum.
A $7,500 grant from the Arcadia Auditorium Foundation will provide performing arts opportunities for students of all grade levels in the Arcadia Unified School District.
Arcadian Roger S. Stevens, a flutist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 30 years, is a professor of music at USC. As owner and pilot of a Cessna 182, Stevens frequently flies himself and his wife, Dr. Margaret M. Stevens, minister of the Santa Anita Church, to classes and speaking engagements in other areas.
Arcadia teachers learned that their stalled contract negotiations with the district will advance to a stage called fact-finding (meaning an impartial panel paid by the state will judge disputes between the teachers and the district).
Due to low turnout at its meetings, an Arcadia anti-drug and alcohol group in the organizational stage has decided to hand its mailing list over to another organization, Community Challenge.
