Arcadian Luben Balabanoff, a Bulgarian by birth, was in Dresden, Germany when it was bombed during World War II. Retired now, he has spent the last 10 years making travel films and touring with them.
City Council will hold its annual reorganization meeting. It is expected that Charles Gilb will be elected mayor for the second time and Jack Saelid will be mayor pro tem, an office he has held before.
A college diploma dated February 13, 1942 from the University of California at Berkeley will be awarded to Arcadia resident Edward Tokshi. Tokshi was sent to a Japanese-American detainment camp in 1942 during his senior year at Berkeley. Forced to relocate away from the West Coast after the war, Tokshi completed degree requirements in Chicago.
In honor of the high school marching band traveling to Newcastle, Australia, a film crew from "Down Under" arrived in Arcadia to shoot scenes around the city. Mayor Don Pellegrino served as tour guide. A second article tells of the preparations made by Jack and Barbara Saelid, and numerous others, as the Saelids prepare to lead 164 teenagers and chaperones plus 30 others on the trip to Australia.
The School Board has approved the appointment of the district's first group of mentor teachers. The 14 teachers, classroom veterans who lend their expertise to new and less experienced teachers, are named.
Del Schrader, 65, a resident of Arcadia since 1943 and longtime Southern California newsman, died of a heart attack. He retired in January as a copy editor for the Daily News in Van Nuys.
A group of eight intends to roller skate from Arcadia to Las Vegas and back again, a trip which should set a speed and endurance record and earn a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. The marathon, under the leadership of Ed Schriener, hopes to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Arcadia novelist Jack Cummings' recently published hard-cover novel, "Dead Man's Medal," is being will received as an exciting adventure story of the posthumous award of a Medal of Honor, set against a cavalry background in Arizona and Mexico of 1888.

A long-simmering feud between the senior and junior members of the Council came to a boil when Jack Saelid moved for a vote of censure against Jeff Dring, accusing him of attacking Mayor Don Pellegrino in the press and attempting to besmirch his character. The motion was not passed.
