Councilman Charles E. Gilb and the Arcadia Child Health Council are the recipients this year of the National Recreations Award presented by the Recreation and Parks Commission.
A cooperative effort by the County Department of Parks and Recreation and the city of Arcadia will make possible the development of a segment of the LARIO bicycle trail in Arcadia joining the Peck County Park Fishing and Conservation Area and Live Oak Avenue.
The new Senior Citizen Center, now in the architectural drawing stage of development will replace the Rose Garden at the corner of Huntington and Campus Drives. The center will house the administration offices of the Arcadia Parks and Recreation Department and the Historical Museum.
L.A. County plans to contract out both the maintenance and operation of area parks to private companies. Many fear such a move will result in charging tennis players to use the city's 12 tennis courts.

By February 14, 1985, the Granada Royale Hometel will be known as the Embassy Suite Hotel. The hotel was purchased in April 1984 by Embassy Suites, a subsidiary of Holiday Inn.
Construction on the Granada Royale Hometel at Second Avenue and Huntington Drive in Arcadia at least six months behind schedule. The project was to be completed and open by August 13 of this year.
Granada Rouale Hometel is interested in building a $10 million hotel at the northeast corner of Second Avenue and Huntington Drive, according to Mike Lloyd, a consultant to Republic Development Company.
