Sam and Louise LaCorte have collected 24,671 signatures from people opposed to the parole of Richard Lanill Johnson, the man who killed their daughter. Johnson was convicted of shooting and killing Catherine LaCorte and Robert Morton in the foothills above Arcadia on February 11, 1976.
A memorial trust fund is being set up to finance the education of the children of Steven and Cathy Jones, an Arcadia couple who were killed in and auto accident August 17 near Val Verde.
Richard Honaker was promoted from Lieutenant to captain of the Arcadia Police Department, filling the vacancy caused by the promotion of Neal Johnson to chief of police.
The Arcadia Redevelopment Agency's financial obligations and development projects prevent it from saving $294,000, or 20% of its tax increment, for low-cost housing, as required under California Assembly Bill 265. The state law, concerned with agencies formed since 1976, does not affect the ARA, formed in 1974. Starting in the 1996-97 fiscal year, however, all agencies will be required to set the money aside.
Bert Johnson, recently retired after 46 years with Pacific Telephone, is a candidate in the upcoming election. He is particularly concerned with redevelopment.
