Incumbents Maryann Gibson and Michael O. Lamb were re-elected to the Arcadia Unified School District board. They were joined by first-time candidate John McClain.
Incumbents Mary Dougherty, 57, and Joann Steinmeier, 47, beat out challenger Debbie Ewing, 29, for 2 Arcadia Unified School District Board of Education positions. A bond measure to raise funds to renovate AUSD facilities won by a vote of 71% to 28.3% (67% was needed to pass).
Board of Education incumbents Joann Steinmeier and Mary Dougherty will compete with challenger Debbie Ewing, a Montebello high school teacher, in a 3-way race for 2 seats. Also, a $28 million bond measure to renovate the school's buildings will be on the ballot on April 20, 1993.
The terms of G. Michael Allison, Robert Kladifko and James Bryant will expire on June 30. Bryant will stay on for another term, to be joined by newcomers Michael Lamb, 41, a 20-year resident and funeral director and Maryann Gibson, an 11-year resident and PTA Council President.
The school board elected new officers for the 1990-91 year. These include G. Michael Allison, President; Robert Kladifko, vice president; and James Bryant, secretary.
This is the first Arcadia Board of Education election in six years in which candidates are contested. This is also the first to employ touch screen machines at six polling places.
