A request from a group of parents that the play "Secrets", dealing with AIDS and birth control, be cancelled at Foothills Junior High has been unanimously denied by the Arcadia Board of Education. Sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and performed throughout the state, the play was requested by parents at the junior high level after it was shown last year at Arcadia High School.
Five young women were named princesses of the 1991-92 Arcadia Tournament of Roses Court. The winners were: Gaylin Kim Bignell, Amy Kathryn Cudworth, Michelle Dyann Lojeski, Anindita Dutta and Adrienne Marie Miller.
Betty Lou Brau, who claimed that she became ill with the herpes- like cytomegalovirus after being inseminated with sperm in 1986 at the Santa Ana-based Fertility Center of California, won $450,000 in an out-of-court settlement. She did not become pregnant.
Arcadia resident Henry"Red" Austin, who helped start the private Highpoint Academy in Pasadena and worked as a dentist in Alhambra for more than 25 years, died Thursday at the age of 69.

Rose Hassing, 27, currently the director of volunteer services for the Pasadena American Red Cross, will become the new senior citizens supervisor for the City of Arcadia as of February 7. The Arcadia Police Dept. will receive $1,227,823 of a total of $12 million for its part in the largest drug bust in history at a Sylmar warehouse last September. The money will be used to step up drug enforcement, as well as for community programs in drug prevention and awareness. The undercover work was by officer Dean Caputo.

James Domney, 49, is leaving his position as City Librarian after 11 years in this position and 18 years with the library. Kent Ross, 45, who started at the library at about the same time as Domney, was recently appointed as the new City Librarian.
Funeral services were held Tuesday for Richard Jarnagin, who created and directed the Los Angeles Co. Parks and Recreation's tax assessment districts. The 63 year old Arcadia resident died April 15 in his home after a struggle with cancer.
Police detained four teenagers Tuesday for questioning about a lunch time melee Monday involving a dozen youths at Arcadia High School in which a teenager was hit on the head with a lead pipe.
Arcadia High School student Asha Jayasinghe is known for her astonishing speed. She won the National Jesse Owens Championship in the 400 meters and was inducted into the Jesse Owens Hall of Fame as a junior athlete. She is profiled.
