Rebecca Nelson, 17, is one of 6 students in the southern region to receive a gold medal 1st prize in the California Association of Regional Occupational Programs (ROP) for her work as anchor, reporter and producer of Arcadia High School's news broadcast, "Apache News".
Rebecca Switzer, a math instructor at Arcadia High School, was one of 10 Los Angeles County teachers selected as a finalist in the Jaime Escalante Mathematics Teacher Awards program.
Five young women were chosen to ride in Arcadia's entry in the 1996 Tournament of Roses Parade. All residents of Arcadia, they are: Erica Mead, Michelle Medeiros, Nicole Mosteller, Rebecca Choi and Michelle Wilson.
Ronald Konoske, 58, a resident of an unincorporated county area south of Arcadia, died Monday of cancer. Konoske was head of a campaign alleging that a San Dimas based water utility caused the cancer in him and others.
