An 82-year tradition ended Monday when the Arcadia Tournament of Roses Association announced it will disband and not enter a float in the next Pasadena Rose Parade.

In additon to the $300,000 donated by Ruth and Charles Gilb, another $85,000 has been contributed from the community for the new Arcadia Historical Museum.

The Arcadia Tournament of Roses 1997 parade float will depict a coronation in the park with palm trees, a pond, and five former Arcadia Rose Queens. Fiscal problems forced the Arcadia Tournament of Roses to cancel having a Rose Court this year. The five former Rose Queens are not named.
Mary Young, the only woman in Arcadia's history to serve 2 terms as mayor and only the second on the city council, was unanimously elected as mayor while Charles Gilb was elected mayor pro-tem by the newly formed city council.
