The Arcadia Community Center now offers a meal program with a charge of $3, as there in no federal funding for this program. The Center offers a variety of programs, from skilled nursing care to government benefits counseling to recreation programs to dances and free movies.
Citizen input is sought on the proposed Santa Anita Commercial Center. The current proposal is 1/3 the size of the initial package presented in 1996 and would be built on 60 acres of what is now the south parking lot of Santa Anita Park.

The Asian Pacific American Legal Center, which recently persuaded Temple City, Rosemead and Garden Grove to stop restricting the use of foreign languages on business signs, has requested a change in the Arcadia city ordinance that allows only 1/3 of the area of a sign to be in a foreign language. The new ordinance is more restrictive than the law that was deemed unconstitutional in Pomona in 1989 which required at least 50% of a sign to be written in the Roman alphabet.
On Wednesday, April 10, the planning commission met in what was to be their first meeting to discuss and review certain aspects of the General Plan Update for 1996. Approximately 200 people crowded the council chamber and the meeting was declared a safety hazard. The rescheduled meeting will be held at the community center.
