Dr. William E. White will be honored by the Alpha Auxiliary of the Methodist Hospital foundation. White has practiced for 40 years in the Sierra Madre and Arcadia areas.

Michael Lieber of Arcadia has been awarded the 2005 MERIT Award, a total of $3.25 million, to fund his cancer research involving "human V(D)J recombinase in neoplastic and primary cells."

The Western Jubilee Crystal Ball of the Methodist Hospital Foundation was held on Oct. 5 at the Autry Museum. Mickey Segal, Chair of the hospital foundation, presented the Berger Award in philanthropy to the Forest Lawn Foundation. Approximately $130,000 was raised to benefit the new Maternal Child Health Center at the hospital.

Arcadia resident Bob Wieland, 62, lost both legs in the Vietnam War, but that didn't stop him from majoring in physical education at California State University Los Angeles. He has walked on his hands and biked across the United States, competed in 6 marathons, completed a triathlon, and set world weight-lifting records. He will be inducted into the California Powerlifting Hall of Fame today.
