Two Arcadia High School girls have been chosen as members of the 2009 Tournament of Roses Royal Court. They are Courtney Chou Lee and Lauren Valenzuela.
Rose Queen Courtney Lee, of Arcadia, and the Royal Court rode the Metro Gold Line to promote the Metro's "Go Metro" to the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl campaign.
Thirty young women are the finalists for the 2009 Rose Parade Queen and Court. Four girls are from Arcadia High School. They are Stephanie Lagace, Courtney Lee, Lauren Valenzuela and Samantha Power.

Natalie Innocenzi, 16, of Arcadia, who attends Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Canada, was named the 92nd Rose Queen of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. Beginning July 14, Santa Anita Park's main track will be reconstituted with a mixture of Pro-Ride synthetic materials to replace its ill-fated Cushion Track.
Dr. Badurding Rajabali "Bud" Kurwa, an ophthalmologist who practices in Arcadia and Glendora, must accept or reject a plea bargain for allegedly touching two female employees. If no plea bargain is reached, his trial will begin July 14.
The city has taken a second pumper truck out of service following a July 4 incident in which a water pump failed to engage on a fire truck. Los Angeles County's median home price is rising. In July, 2009, it was $339,430, up from $319,860 in June 2009, but well below $395,240 a year ago. Broker Chris Vigil thinks the market has hit rock bottom. Arcadia's median home price in July 2009 was $663,000, up from $626,500 a year ago (July, 2008). Investigators have concluded that the failure of a pump on a fire engine was likely caused by a mechanical and/or design defect. The failure occurred on July 4 at a car accident scene where David Contreras died. Chief Dave Lugo may pursue litigation with manufacturer Kovatch Mobile Fire Apparatus.
